Memories and Photographs of Tregony and District

1886~1921

In ‘Tregony Happenings’ Cornishman, Franklin Grigg, has drawn from several sources to create a fascinating overview of the local history of Tregony and the surrounding district spanning the years 1886-1921.  The basis of the book has been provided by two local men of that era, who have in different ways painted a canvas of intriguing descriptions and pictures.  Mr Frank Greet [born 1886] was a traditional storyteller; Mr Joseph Greet, a photographer [until 1921].  In addition, many colourful facts and descriptive newspaper accounts, researched by Franklin Grigg, have been incorporated to add greater insight into the community story.  Remarkable images of the Parish Church, a destroyed public boarding school, Tregony’s old bridge, the renovated Almshouses and long forgotten opes and terraces are graphic examples of what has come to light.  The dreadful effects of the Great War, the lack of social welfare and the living conditions of the majority are depicted both in word and image. Several of the old photographs are probably on public display for the first time in years.
